IDC NATO conference attended by the students of MSU and SPU „Ion Creangă”: The challenges faced by the European security after the end of the Cold War
On the 16th and 17th of March at the IDC NATO headquarters was held a conference for the history students of MSU and SPU „Ion Creangă” on the topic of: „The challenges faced by the European security after the end of the Cold War”.
More than thirty students from the two universities presented their research papers at the conference. In order to accommodate the significant number of participants who have registered for the event, the conference was held in two panels on the 16th of March and the 17th of March. During the first panel, entitled NATO: History and present, the participating students researched various current topics such as the attitude of NATO regarding the frozen conflicts from Eastern Europe, the role of NATO in Afghanistan, the role of NATO in assuring the Euro-Atlantic security after the fall of USSR, NATO’s involvement in the conflicts from the Balkans, etc.
During the second panel of the Conference – NATO and global security, were discussed problems regarding the terrorist threat to the security of the European states, the meetings held by the State Heads in Chicago and Newport, the importance of respecting the national minorities rights and the necessity of maintaining a high level of social cohesion, the vision of the Russian Federation regarding the problems related to the European security, etc. After the students presented their communications followed the Q&A session and debates within which those present had the possibility to state their own point of view regarding what has been discussed previously.
The students with the best communications and the most active participants were awarded with diplomas and prizes. Rodion Rusnac and Ghețan Alexandru, students of the MSU, were nominated to participate in the next phase which is going to consist of a national inter-university conference.
