NATO experts at the Ministry of Defence

A group of NATO experts performs on 10-13 November a visit to the the Ministry of Defense regarding the implementation of the Defence Capacity Building Initiative ( DCBI) in the Republic of Moldova. According to the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Aurel Fondos, experts, together with the Ministry of Defence ,during the work meetings, they will examine the progress in adjusting the Legislative strategic framework and the National Security Strategy. The discussions will focus on reviewing military risks and threats of the Republic of Moldova, the National Defense Strategy format as well as the field of strategic communication.

Andrew Cullen,the head of NATO experts group, said that NATO’s engagement in the initiative of DCB is reflected in the number of experts involved. “We have high-level experts from USA, UK, Germany, Turkey, Romania and partner countries such as Sweden, Georgia and Switzerland. Our activity is essential at Ministry of Defence, it is to provide guidance and assistance and to help the Moldovan authorities to reform the Armed Forces. This is for us a task of utmost importance, “said Andrew Cullen.

The Republic of Moldova was invited by the North Atlantic Alliance to join the DCB initiative during at the NATO Summit in Wales, held during September 4-5, 2014. The initiative aims to offer assistance in analyzing the current defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova and in identifying the sectors that need development. In June, 2015, in Brussels, Defense Ministers of NATO member states approved the assistance package “Defense Capacity Building Initiative for the Republic of Moldova”.
