“Security landscape of the Republic of Moldova in the context of regional and international challenges” Roundtable the with participation of NATO Parliamentary Assembly Delegation
On July 23, Information and Documentation Centre on NATO in Moldova in collaboration with the Bulgarian Embassy in Republic of Moldova organized a roundtable entitled “Security landscape of the Republic of Moldova in the context of regional and international challenges “.
The roundtable was attended by the delegation of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), consisting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Hugh Bayley, Vice-Presidents Daniel Bacquelaine and Karl A. Lamers, former Vice-President Julio Miranda Calhau and Secretary General David Hobbs. The event was attended by representatives of civil society, representatives of state institutions, ambassadors and diplomatic attaches accredited in Chisinau.
The event began with an opening speech by H.E. Valentin Radomirski, Charge d’Affaires at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Moldova. He reiterated the importance of the meeting stressing that “in a democratic country all views matter, not just of the leadership but also of civil society”. The introduction was followed the presentation of Mr. Barbarosie – Executive Director of the Institute of Public Policy, during first session entitled “The internal political situation ahead of the November elections.” The second session was moderated by Mr. Oazu Nantoi, Programme Director at the Institute for Public Policy. The presentation covered the topic of updating the Transnistrian conflict in the context of the Ukrainian crisis and the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU. The third session entitled “Moldova’s relations with NATO and the EU” was moderated by Mr. Viorel Cibotaru, Director of European Institute for Political Studies in Moldova and co-founder of the IDC on NATO.
After the presentation followed the session of Q&A that gave the NATO PA , and the represenatatives of the civil society the opportunity to raise questions with regards to relations between Moldova and NATO, the situation in Moldova, and the informational war which is currently ongoing in Moldova.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly President – Hugh Bayley, referring to the the conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation noted that “(…) international laws say that each state must respect the sovereignty of other states, such a violation is unacceptable in the 21st century”.
