Study on good practices in parliamentary oversight of defense and security sector: the case of Estonia and Moldova

On June 30, 2014, the Information and Documentation Center on NATO in Moldova organized the presentation of the study  “Best practices of the parliamentary oversight of defense and security sector: the case of Estonia and Moldova”. The event will focus on revealing the best practices identified in the study visit of the parliamentary delegation from Moldova to Estonia and an analysis made by the Estonian expert Martin Hurt from the International Centre for Defence Studies, as well as Iurie Pîntea, expert from Institute for Public Policy.

The event took place within the framework of the project “Strengthening the national capacity of Parliament to monitor the security and defense sectors”. The general objectives of this project is to facilitate the exchange of experience and best practices regarding the monitoring of security and defense sector among Parliamentary committee members of Moldova and Estonia; analyzing and improving internal capabilities of the National Security Commission to defend the public order and to identify and resolve security and defense issues; ensure visibility and transparency in monitoring the security and defense sectors; enhancing understanding and interest of the media in defense and security reform.
