Study visit at NATO Headquarters

During 28-30 November, a group of opinion leaders participated during a study visit at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The working group consisted of representatives of IDC on NATO, civil society, teachers and journalists. Among them were Elena Marzac – Executive Director, IDC on NATO; Ludmila Barba – journalist at Moldova 1, editor of “European vector”; Adrian Ermurachi-expert, Institute of European Policies and Reforms; phD Florentin Paladi – deputy rector, Moldova State University; Victoria Bucataru -Executive Director, Foreign Policy Association; Dr. Ion Gagim – rector, State University “Alecu Russo”; Nicolae Afanas – Head of the Department of International Relations , Moldova International Relations Institute; Alexei Hemei – student at the Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun”, winner of the essay contest organized by IDC on NATO.
During the visit, the working group participated in several informal discussions were they discussed the current political agenda of the Alliance and the cooperation between Moldova and NATO, as well as new aspects of cooperation, NATO-Russia relationship, Briefing on new emerging security challenges. Discussions have been conducted by NATO officers. During the visit the working group had the opportunity to participate in the roundtable with the NATO ambassadors. They also participated to a visit to the Moldovan Embassy in Belgium and met with H.E. Mr. Ambassador Iurie Renita.
The working group also attended the press briefing held by Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Within the briefing the two have made official statements regarding the signing of the Agreement for opening a NATO Liaidon Office in Chisinau.
“The office will be an important link between NATO and Moldova and will be a tool for direct political dialogue, as well as an instrument for strengthening the Armed Forces. It will be a small office formed of civilians and a tool that will not impose NATO’s priorities to the Republic of Moldova. Therefore we want to show that we support the independence and integrity of Moldova “, said Stoltenberg.
The participation of the working group at the NATO Headquarters was conducted within a three-day study visit organized by NATO.
