The 90th Rose-Roth Seminar of NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The 90th Rose-Roth Seminar of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly entitled “The European future of Moldova: context of regional and internal challenges”, takes place on 11-13 November 2015 in Chisinau.

The Speaker Andrian Candu, said at the opening of the event that 21 years have passed since Moldova Cooperation Platform has been using as the associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Throughout this time things have changed, and there were even dramatic changes, both in Moldova and in the region. Developments in Moldova are essential, the country has become an associated country to the EU, and it has made commitments of transformation and modernization, taking into account the values of the EU.

The official said that this period of time is the most difficult, due to political developments in Moldova. “However, we still want to go through the chosen path – towards the EU. Topics discussed during this seminar are very important in the regional context. There are challenges within the country that are specifically related to the lack or retention of reforms that are needed so much, tha fight against corruption, the judiciary reform, and in the media. During this period there have been great steps in dialogue with so-called Transnistrian administration right now maybe we will find solutions the implementation of the Association Agreement in the region. But there is much more to do. There are many challenges internally and externally, and we rely on the support of the NATO countries and the associated countries”, said the Speaker.

Paolo Alli, NATO Vice President said that NATO will continue to support Moldova’s European aspirations, encouraging the authorities to continue implementing reforms in line with EU standards, for the benefit of the citizens.

Rose-Roth seminar of the NATO PA represent s a forum of parliamentary debates on topics of issues of security. For three days, the seminar participants will discuss issues related to political and economic development in Moldova, the country’s relations with NATO, strengthening integrity and democratic control, relations between Moldova and the Russian Federation, the Transnistrian conflict settlement, the implications of aggression against Ukraine on regional and global security, Eastern neighborhood and the country’s relations with the European Union after the annual Conference in Riga, informational war in Eastern Europe. Republic of Moldova is an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly since November 1994.
