Ukraine can be based on NATO, tells General Secretary NATO, visiting Kiev

Ukraine can depend on the continued political and practical support of the Alliance, General Secretary NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said to the members of the National Security Council and Defense of Ukraine, Tuesday (09.22.2015) Kiev.
He said, “In this difficult time, Ukraine can be based on NATO”.

General Secretary NATO, Jens Stoltenberg is in his first visit in Ukraine, in the period of the 21-22 of September. In a common press conference with the Ukrainian president, Petro Poroshenko, Stoltenberg welcomed the armistice which is respected in the East of Ukraine. However, the official declared that the tension persists because of Russia that supports, forwards, the separatist.

Russia must withdraw its heavy weapons from the eastern Ukraine. The declaration was made by the General Secretary of the North-Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, during a two-day visit to Ukraine. The official assisted on the opening exercises “Ukraine 2015” on a polygon in the Lvov region.

The General Secretary NATO is in Ukraine with the occasion of the inauguration of a military polygon near the Ukrainian city of Lvov. Stoltenberg declared that the exercises that NATO develops with the Ukraine is a possibility for the Alliance members and partner countries that must react first to hazards, to collaborate together. According to the Ukrainian press, on the opening international exercises in Ukraine were present teams from 30 countries. Most of all came from the Romania, Poland, Austria and USA, and in totality participated more than 300 soldiers. In 2010, Ukraine gave up to its request to join NATO, but now claims that this is the only way to protect its territory.
In its turn, NATO wants to avoid a challenge to Russia.
