NATO week in Moldova

The project “NATO week in Moldova” is developed by the Information and Documentation Centre on NATO in Moldova (IDC NATO) with the support from NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division.  NATO Week comprises a series of events aimed to broaden and deepen the understanding of the Moldovan population with regards to NATO activities and values, as well as NATO-Moldova relations in particular. The 2014 edition is the third one and also a milestone in the entire activity of IDC on NATO, as it dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the PfP programme in Moldova.

Thus, NATO Week will focus on reaching more than 400 direct stakeholders, more than 1000 stakeholders via new media tools, TV and radio broadcasts both in cities and rural areas, as well as publishing and distributing more than 600 informational booklets, notebooks and journals.

May 12th Public lecture held by Valeriy Kravchenko and Andriy Karakuts of the Center for Information and Research for International Security and Euro-Atlantic Cooperation of the National University of Donetsk, and Igor Chernov – Head of the Information Centre for International Security in Volgograd, on the topic “NATO united/NATO Divided: Ukraine’s Crisis and Its Consequences for future policy of the Alliance”. The lesson will be conducted in Russian language at the IDC NATO headquarters starting at 11.00 am.

 

May 13th Public lecture at the State University of Moldova on the topic “20 years of Partnership for Peace: achievements and perspectives” held by H.E., Mr. Ambassador Alexander Vershbow, Deputy Secretary General of NATO.

 

May 13th Round table on the topic “The crisis in Ukraine and its impact on NATO Partnerships” with the participation of local and foreign experts, civil society and academia representatives. The event will take place at the IDC NATO headquarters, Banulescu Bodoni 2A str., starting at 2:00 p.m

 

May 14th Conference “20 years of Partnership for Peace: Achievements and Future Perspectives”. The conference will bring national and international experts, opinion formers, representatives of NATO member and partner states embassies, NGOs, academia and mass-media. It will create an outline of the 20 years of partnership and will stir debates regarding the future dynamics in the Moldova-NATO relations, presenting recommendations and proposals on this issue

 

May 15th The opening of the NATO lecture hall at the Free and International University of the Republic of Moldova. The opening ceremony will be organized in partnership with TIKA organization and the Embassy of Turkey in the Republic of Moldova. The event will take place on May 15th, at 15:00, within the Free International University of Moldova, lecture hall 716, 7th floor (52 Vlaicu Parcalab street, Chisinau, MD-2012).

 

May 16th The release of a book published by the Ministry of Defense on the topic of Moldova-NATO relations within the context of the Partnership for Peace programme. On the same day the photo exhibition“20 Years of NATO PfP Programme” will be organized in partnership with the MoD and NATO Contact Point Embassy in Moldova, and will depict the achievements Moldova has reached due to its collaboration with NATOThe exhibition will take place at the Centre for Military History and Culture, Tighina 47 Str, at 10 am.

 

May 16th Public Debate on “Moldova and NATO: a win-win relation.” is an event which aims to generate discussions, inform the population about the NATO-Moldova relations and develop the critical analysis among citizens with regards to Moldova`s input in its partnership with NATO. The public debate will be organized in mixed teams of experts and professional debaters and will use a mix of BP debate format and Chatham House rules. Issuing of an informational notebook with cartoons“Breaking stereotypes: Understanding   NATO” is an interactive and useful tool for providing objective information about NATO.
