Public lecture on the topic „Cooperation with NATO in the domain of environment security in the Republic of Moldova”

IDC NATO, in collaboration with the Defence Minister of the Republic of Moldova, organized on the 24th of March, 2015, a public lecture on the topic „Cooperation with NATO in the domain of environment security in the Republic of Moldova”. The lecture was held by Ms. Mariana Grama, colonel, NATO/PfP Project Manager in the domain of pesticides disposal, National Director of the project „Chemicals-Moldova” and of the project „Strengthening capacities of mitigating biological risks”.

During the public lecture Ms. Mariana Grama approached the next subjects: The legal framework of cooperation of the Republic of Moldova with NATO, Cooperation with NATO in the domain of environment security, especially in the domain of disposing and destroying racket oxidants, landmines, pesticides and dangerous chemicals in the Republic of Moldova, as well as strengthening national capacities regarding biological risk mitigation in the Republic of Moldova.               Ms. Mariana Grama mentioned that the implementation of national strategies and policies in the domain of environment, public health, human rights, ecological agriculture development is realised by reducing direct and indirect impacts of pesticide waste on the environment, health awareness, etc. Also, after reducing the direct exposure of the population to the negative effects of the 3245 tons of waste from 424 stores spread across the territory of Moldova, the demographic indices increased by 0.4 % within a year. Strengthening security can only occur by combining political, economic, military, human and environmental.                                                    The participants at the event discussed during the questions and answers session about the culture of reusing garbage, about the benefits of the waste incinerator, burning chemicals, pesticides in the factories located on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
