Two study visits of the opinion formers from the regions to Chisinau will be organized in the month of July.

The Information and Documentation Center on NATO in Moldova is cooperating with the NATO Liaison Office in the Republic of Moldova on the implementation of a project intended for Moldovan opinion formers from the regions (North, Center, South).

The project entitled “Study visits of opinion formers from the regions”, running from May to September 2019, foresees the organization of a series of study visits for Moldovan opinion formers to Chisinau, the goal of which is to raise public awareness of Moldova-NATO cooperation and to enhance the dialogue on this topic between the experts in the security and defence field and representatives of Moldovan civil society, academia, local public administration and mass-media.

During the visits, the participants will have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the representatives of the NATO Liaison Office and other diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Moldova, as well as with the public servants from national state institutions responsible for security, defense and cooperation with NATO.

The first study visit took place on May 28, when 20 local opinion formers from Straseni, Rezina and the nearby localities visited Chisinau and had a series of meetings and discussions with Ms. Kristina Baleisyte, Head of the NATO Liaison Office, Colonel Mariana Grama from the Ministry of Defense and H.E Mr. Kestutis Kudzmanas, Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Moldova (NATO Contact Point Embassy).

The second group of 20 opinion formers from Hincesti and Telenesti districts will pay a visit to Chisinau on July 18, 2019, during which discussions are planned to take place with the participation of representatives of the NATO Liaison Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the Embassy of Lithuania.

The third study visit is scheduled for July 25, 2019. 20 opinion formers from Cahul, Cantemir, Leova and nearby localities will visit the NATO Liaison Office, the Embassy of Romania, and will also have a constructive discussion with the representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Moldova.

A total of 5 study visits are planned within this project implemented by the Information and Documentation Center on NATO in Moldova in the context of the 70th anniversary of NATO with the support of the NATO Liaison Office in the Republic of Moldova.

The NLO is NATO’s diplomatic representation in the Republic of Moldova, opened in 2017 at the request of the Moldovan Government and ratified by the Parliament. NLO’s mission is to facilitate political dialogue and practical cooperation, to serve as a channel of communication to ensure a better understanding and coordination between NATO and Moldova. NLO supports NATO assistance projects that are run by the Moldovan partners, introduce or provide more concrete information to those interested (Moldovan governmental and non-governmental entities, NGOs, universities) on NATO programmes and how to make best of them.
